Jeffrey Raymond Nettleton lived 58 extraordinary years. On June 15, 2026, after sustaining a massive traumatic brain injury in a plane crash, he gave the gift of life to others through organ donation. The world forever dimmed in those early morning hours as his earthly life ended. Through his selfless final act, multiple people have been given a second chance at life.

If you knew Jeff, you knew his infectious smile, quick wit, and impossible-to-resist sense of fun. Jeff never met a stranger. He was the kind of person who brought life to the party and the party to life. Determined, hardworking, and passionate, he never failed to bring a smile or a laugh to those around him.

Born on June 11, 1968, in Boise, Idaho, Jeff spent his first nine years as a town kid before moving to Oreana, where he embraced ranch life in the desert. He enjoyed playing in Castle Creek, riding dirt bikes, and exploring the Owyhee Desert with his brother, Jason. He spent countless hours working in the shop and developing his passion for all things mechanical alongside his father, Nick. He also worked tirelessly with his mother, Betty Ann, caring for and loving animals, from his 4-H steers to his milking goat, Estrella.

It was in the fields of Castle Creek that Jeff's love for agriculture blossomed. He graduated from Rimrock High School in 1986, participating in basketball, track, Future Farmers of America, and 4-H. He was even the champion siphon tube setter at the Owyhee County Fair, a title he wore with great pride.

Jeff briefly attended Boise State University but quickly decided traditional education was not for him. Instead, in 1988, he embarked on a three-and-a-half-year adventure in Australia, where he was introduced to the turfgrass industry through his Australian family, the Davies, and their farm, Evergreen Turf.

Upon returning to the United States, Jeff began his American turfgrass journey. Through hard work, grit, and determination, he spent the next eleven years building his knowledge and experience while pursuing a vision for the future. In 1999, he and his business partner, Jimmy Fox, founded Evergreen Turf in Arizona, paying homage to his Australian roots.

Today, Evergreen Turf spans numerous states, with grass installed in NFL stadiums, college stadiums, professional baseball diamonds, and golf courses across the country. Over the last 19 years, the company has consistently been recognized as providing one of the NFL's best playing surfaces. Jeff was especially proud of his work with the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders and the innovations they made in turf field management.

A self-taught lifelong learner with a degree from the school of hard knocks, Jeff became one of the top sod producers in the United States. An astute businessman, he pursued many ventures and opportunities with a vision for growth, both professionally and personally. His entrepreneurial spirit, innovative thinking, and generosity leave a void that will be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing, working with, and loving him.

Jeff will be missed most by the people who loved him. He was an incredible son, brother, uncle, and friend. He had a remarkable way of making people feel like they were the only person in the room who mattered. He was fun, kind, caring, attentive, and generous.

He especially loved adventures with his niece Bellamy and nephew Dax, and among their favorite activities was a spirited game of hide-and-seek. The children believe he went to heaven so he could discover all the best hiding spots, reunite with loved ones who had gone before him, and once again play with his best buddy, Thor. Why he departed this life so soon is a question without an answer. Perhaps heaven simply needed its grass tended by the very best.

Jeff leaves behind his friend, Kay; his mother, Betty Ann; his father, Nick; his not-officially-adopted daughter, Mason; his brother, Jason; his sister-in-law, Robin; his niece, Bellamy; and his nephew, Dax. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and their families; extended family members scattered across the country; and countless friends around the world.

Jeff brought joy to everyone fortunate enough to know him. He made a point of staying connected with people near and far and freely shared his friendship, kindness, and love with all whose lives he touched.

A celebration of Jeff's incredible life, "JeffFest," will be held on August 1, 2026, at Elk Valley Resort in Featherville, Idaho, at 3:30 p.m. MST, with dinner to follow. As the only location in Idaho featuring "Jeff's grass," it seemed the most fitting place to honor his life's work.
